Althaia Artesana also has a beautiful love story behind: When Mayte came to Alicante to continue her career in the world of wine, she met her husband Jorge. One day, testing Jorge’s beers, he confessed that his dream was always to do what he liked best, to make beer. Both, passionate about their collaboration, they did not think twice. After all, if not now, when?

So, Jorge Sanchez is the alchemist. A passionate man about beer that after many years decides to live his dream. Produce a high-quality artisan beer whose only ingredients are water, malt, hops and yeast. To enhance the true taste of beer, in which the contrast between the flavours of the cereal and the freshness of the hops can be clearly perceived, thus obtaining a beer in balance, Mediterranean in marriage with our sun, our sea, our gastronomy.

Today the Althaia family has grown, with a new member in the team: Jens Maudal. Jens can be considered one of the pioneers of the craft beer movement in Europe. After several years of friendship, he decided to leave his previous project in Norway with the brewery Haandbryggeriet to return to the roots of the craft beer with this new adventure, contributing with his experience and wisdom.

The complete team consists of Jorge, Jens, Mayte and José Manuel. José Manuel is the father of Jorge and the MacGyver of the factory. Helping in every moment and with an ingenious solution for each problem. You will always find it with a tool in his hand or taking measurements with his inseparable meter for some new project.

Athaia, is the ancient name of Altea. Greek word meaning “cure” or “healthy”

It is said that Althaia is the ancient name of our town, Altea. It is a word of Greek origin meaning “cure” or “healthy”. For us it symbolizes perfectly the two pillars of this project. On the one hand, our philosophy as processors because we make 100% natural beers with very respectful techniques with the product. We do not filter, pasteurize or use artificial additives or preservatives. The gas and the foam of our beers are naturally obtained and this makes them feel better and drink more digestive. On the other hand, let’s be the name of our town for us symbolizes our lifestyle, the Mediterranean, sea beers, coast, beach and sun. US.
